Well, it was certainly no UFC. Here's a few thoughts on the first MMA broadcast on network television.
*It took over 45 minutes (!) to get to the second fight, and the first one only lasted a minute. I'm glad I didn't watch it live.
*Gina Carano is HOT (sorry Kristen Bell, but I've got a new celebrity crush), and she was actually impressive as a fighter. The chicks had the second best fight of the night, no doubt.
*Scott Smith's resilience was impressive. I thought he may not come out for round 2. I expect him to get tooled in the rematch, though.
*Kimbo Slice... Wow, where to start? I actually used to be a bit of a Kimbo Hater, but he seems pretty down to earth in his interviews and you can't really blame him for the way EliteXC is trying to push him as a legit MMA star. As for his fight, it was not a good showing for him. He clearly has power (Thompson looked like Cabbage, he wouldn't go down!), but the fight could've been stopped late in the second round when Kimbo was getting pummeled. Also, the stoppage was total BS. More than likely, Kimbo would've finished the fight on his own in the next few seconds, but Thompson didn't need rescuing yet. But I gotta give it to Kimbo, as he wheezed through is post-fight interview (I think he was having an asthma attack), he reminded everyone he is still learning and showed some class.
