Dream Match Finally Coming True?
Originally posted October 20, 2007
It looks like the fight that would have been the fight of the century 18 months ago is finally going to happen. Chuck 'The Iceman' Lidell vs. Wanderlei 'The Axe Murderer' Silva might be going down on Dec. 29th along with Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra. No announcement has been made, but DirectTV apparently had an ad up for the fight on thier website. Did someone at DirectTV let the cat out of the bag, or is it just another rumor? Either way there is no doubt much of the luster has worn off this potential matchup in the past 18 months.
Lidell has been knocked out by Quinton Jackson, which cost him his light-heavywieght title, and then was beaten by Kieth Jardine in a major upset, via split decision. Silva nearly had his head taken off by Mirko Cro Cop, then lost his Pride Light-Heavyweight title to Dan Henderson via knockout. Two of the sports greatest, no doubt, but one of them is walking away from this fight with a 3 fight losing streak. Even so, I cannot wait to see it. (BTW, I'll take Chuck by KO in round 2)
